Be A Hero For Pets, Donate Today!
Every day, Great Plains SPCA strives to improve the lives of community pets. Your tax-deductible donation supports the vital, hands-on work we do for the animals that come through our doors daily. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of both animals and the people who love them.
There are so many ways to help the over 5,000 homeless pets that visit Great Plains SPCA each year – we couldn’t do it without you! Many people think we are a chapter of the ASPCA, but we are a local, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping local pets. We rely on local dollars to help local pets and the families by their side. To schedule a tour to see our lifesaving operation in action, please contact donations@greatplainsspca.org.
How Your Donation Makes a Difference for each animal
Our average cost of care per animal is $1,350, while the average adoption fee is only $173. This leaves a significant care gap of $1,177 per animal. We’ve detailed the services we provide to each animal and their costs, highlighting how essential your donations are in bridging this gap. Your support is crucial in helping us continue to provide the best care possible for every animal.
PLEASE NOTE: Effective March 2024, our donation processing service changed from Salsa Labs to Bloomerang/Kindful. If your bank statement shows a charge listed with “BLOOMERANG,” proceeding Great Plains SPCA on the line item, this is a charge from Bloomerang/Kindful donation software which replaced the charge from Salsa Labs. If you have questions about any recent charges, please email donations@greatplainsspca.org.

Scooby was a Great Plains SPCA dog that suffered greatly from severe separation anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Scooby was at the shelter for more than a year, like so many large dogs that find themselves in animal shelters with few interested adopters due to the pet overpopulation crisis. During Scooby’s time with us, in addition to anxiety medication, our Behavior Team provided intense behavior modification to manage his stress, but ultimately, it was not enough for Scooby and we were unable to save him even with the enormous effort and commitment from staff, volunteers, and Board Members. Scooby was humanely euthanized on October 30, 2023. This was the only peace we were able to provide for him in the end. All donations to the Scooby Fund support our Behavior Team, a group of highly skilled and trained individuals who passionately dedicate their time to helping dogs like Scooby achieve a positive outcome in a forever home.

Giving Through Your IRA: A Flexible Way to Give
Your contribution to Great Plains SPCA through a Qualified Charitable Distribution saves lives and comes with benefits for you. This planned giving option allows you to make a gift to the animals without the distribution counting as taxable income. Normally, distributions from a traditional IRA are taxable when distributed…with one exception.
People who are age 70 ½ or older can contribute up to $105,000* directly from their IRA to a charity and avoid paying income taxes on the distribution. This is known as a QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DONATION (QCD). It is limited to IRAs, and there are other exclusions and considerations as well. Please talk with your tax adviser or other financial professionals to determine whether a QCD could benefit you. With a QCD, these distributions are tax-free as long as they’re paid directly by the trustee of the IRA from the IRA to an eligible charitable organization.
